FABRIC & WEAVE: A TAPESTRY OF PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTUREA community rooted in memories and woven together to shape the future. The MORE Residence Beijing Langyuan Station by LOD transforms a derelict 1970s textile factory into a vibrant 112-unit coliving complex, blending industrial heritage with contemporary design. Completed in 2020 and boasting over 98% occupancy, the project exemplifies successful adaptive reuse, with proven operational success. The weaving-inspired façade features precast concrete fins and perforated steel panels, modulating light and shadow while enhancing durability and aesthetics.Sustainable materials and technologies are central to the design, including ventilated mechanical enclosures and future-ready upgrades such as solar PV panels and sensor-integrated shading systems. A value-focused approach to façade design and modular construction ensures long-term performance and low maintenance while preserving the site’s historic character.Wellbeing and community are fostered through 506 m² landscaped courtyard and 220 m² of public space, with shared amenities including café, shared kitchen, and multipurpose zones. These spaces promote biophilia, social interaction, and inclusive engagement. Through workshops and surveys, the project ensures lasting social impact and urban regeneration.Inspired by the metaphor of weaving, the design interlaces emotional, spatial, and historic layers—creating a living tapestry of memory, architecture, and future possibilities.
